Hancrafted one-of-a-kind wooden furniture.
Hello, my name is Natalia Cal, and I am a graduate in Art History from the University of Łódź in Poland. During my studies, I developed a passion for furniture history, with a special fascination for the mid-century modern movement in the United States. I was deeply inspired by the work of George Nakashima, whose mastery of wood and respect for its natural form opened my eyes to a different way of creating.
Through studying his work, I discovered the beauty of Japanese aesthetics — so distinct from Western ideals — where imperfection is embraced, and every object carries the quiet reminder that nothing lasts forever. This is when I first encountered the Wabi Sabi philosophy, which became both my creative compass and the inspiration for my shop’s name: Wabi Woodwork.
I create one-of-a-kind pieces based on the unique qualities of the wood that finds its way into my workshop. My focus is on coffee tables, benches, consoles, and other wooden objects, all made entirely with traditional hand tools. There is no mass production here — every curve, joint, and finish is shaped by my hands alone, ensuring each piece has its own character and story.
Sustainability is a core part of my process. Whenever possible, I work with reclaimed wood, giving it a second life while preserving its history and charm. I especially love working with oak — a material that is strong, enduring, and full of warmth — perfectly suited to timeless designs meant to be cherished for generations.
